W. Kent Taylor opened the first Texas Roadhouse in Clarksville, Indiana, in 1993. The company, now based in Louisville, Kentucky, grew by opening most of its restaurants itself rather than franchising them, which is why the menu, hand-cut steaks and free rolls are so consistent from one location to the next.
